Béa Fertility - At-home, clinical-grade fertility treatment.

When a critical programme needed rescuing

Recovering a Critical Medical Device Programme

The Challenge

Béa Fertility set out to transform access to fertility treatment through an affordable home-based solution.

The company initially partnered with a specialist medical manufacturer who undertook the product design as part of the manufacturing package. Unfortunately, when the first production parts emerged from tooling, it became clear that the product was not fit for purpose.

The problem was significant.

The design issues were embedded within the product architecture, making incremental fixes impractical. The programme effectively needed to be restarted.

At the same time, Béa was approaching a crucial investment milestone. Off-tool samples were required within six months, leaving very little room for delay.

The Risk

The challenge was no longer simply product development.

Béa faced the prospect of:

  • Losing valuable time ahead of a critical investment round.
  • Repeating expensive development mistakes.
  • Coordinating redesign, engineering and manufacturing under severe time pressure.
  • Delivering production-quality parts within an extremely demanding schedule.

For many businesses, this is the point where programmes stall.

The IKONYX Approach

The IKONYX model was specifically suited to the challenge.

Because design, engineering and manufacturing operate within the same commercial structure, decisions could be made quickly and implemented without the friction often found between separate suppliers.

Manufacturing specialists worked directly alongside the medical device design team, allowing problems to be identified, prioritised and resolved as a single coordinated programme.

Rather than managing multiple organisations with competing priorities, Béa had a single team focused on one objective: delivering workable off-tool parts before the deadline.

The Outcome

The redesigned product was delivered successfully, with quality production parts available ahead of the investment deadline.

Since launch, Béa Fertility has gone on to successfully commercialise the product and bring fertility treatment to a wider audience through a more accessible home-use solution.

The product is now established in the market, with sales continuing to grow. Rigorous testing has demonstrated that the design, materials and manufacturing processes meet the standards expected of regulated medical devices, including ISO 13485 quality requirements and FDA compliance pathways.

What This Demonstrates

Béa is not simply a story about product design.

It is a story about programme recovery.

When development and manufacturing become disconnected, even well-funded projects can find themselves heading towards failure. By bringing design, engineering and production expertise together under a single structure, IKONYX was able to recover a struggling programme, protect a critical commercial milestone and help deliver a successful product to market.
